Hours of Operation:
Court is held the second Thursday of the month at 5:00 PM and the 4th Tuesday of the month at 2:00 PM.  The fourth Tuesday is ADA and Public Defender Day. Small Claims cases are done by appointment.  Remember - the defendant must live or work in the Town of Sangerfield and the limit on small claims cases is $3,000.   PLEASE NOTE THE TIME CHANGES STARTING JULY 1, 2017.

WHEN IS COURT HELD?

Court is held on the Second and Fourth Thursday of each month at 5 p.m.    

 

WHEN IS DA NIGHT? 

The ADA and Public Defender are in court every fourth Thursday of the month.

 

WHERE DO I FIND THE COURT?

Court is held at the Town of Sangerfield Town Hall located at 1084 State Route 12 Sangerfield NY 13455.

It is near the intersection of Routes 12 and 20.

 

HOW DO I CONTACT THE JUDGE?

All communication with the judge MUST take place in court.   

 

WHAT IF I CAN'T READ MY TICKET?

Call the police agency that issued the ticket and they will advise of the correct date and court.

 

WHAT IF I DISAGREE WITH THE CHARGES ON THE TICKET?

The court is the judicial branch that interprets the law.   Appear in court to plead your  case and

you will be advised of your options.

 

I JUST WANT TO MAIL IN THE TICKET AND PAY THE FINE.   WHAT IS THE PROCESS?

Follow the procedure written on your ticket and if you wish to plead guilty, once the plea is received the judge will determne the fine

and the surcharge and you will receive the fine notice in the mail.

 

WHAT IF I WANT TO PLEAD NOT GUILTY?

Follow the procedure on your ticket 

 

CAN I FILE A SMALL CLAIM IN ANY COURT?

No,  the small claim action can only be filed in the court that has jurisdiction where the defendant lives or works or has  a

place of business.   Small claim cases are done by appointment only.    The limit is $3000 in damages.
